The Deal of the Year Award is bestowed upon recent investments or acquisitions by other food companies, private equity funds, venture capital firms or other sources in food, beverage and milling companies in Africa.

The winning deals are chosen for their potential impact on the economy and job creation in the country it is located, plus potential effects at the regional level in the Continent.

NEW PLANT OF THE YEAR CATEGORY

The New Plant of the Year Awards celebrate the most outstanding recent greenfield, brownfield or plant extensions in Africa’s food industry.

This Awards category celebrates some of the most unique projects in the food industry, with a particular focus on the new facilities’ adoption of the most appropriate technologies and delivery of world-class sustainability, efficiency and safety credentials.

The Sustainability Initiatives of the Year Award celebrate the best application of sustainability initiatives by the food manufacturing, retail and foodservice industry

To stress the importance and breadth of the way the industry is adopting sustainability practices, the category has been divided into 4 sub-categories: water, energy, waste and community projects.

The Awards seek to encourage greater adoption and thoughtful uptake of sustainability by the food industry.

Judges look out for impact of the sustainability projects on the environment, plant efficiency and cost savings (where applicable) and the community in which it operates.

Sustainable Energy Management Initiative of the Year

Awarded to the most outstanding sustainability energy management project by a food manufacturer, retailer or foodservice operator that has delivered unique benefits on the company’s operational efficiency, environment and community in which the company operates.

PACKAGING REDESIGN OF THE YEAR CATEGORIES

The Packaging Redesign of the Year Award celebrates the best application of new design concepts and ideas, sustainability and customer convenience by the food manufacturing industry.

Changes to packaging designs and/or materials is one of the most common ways that food businesses frequently use to innovate, either to meet new consumer requirements or to open new growth opportunities.

This Award category seeks to encourage deeper thought whenever companies redesign labels or packages of their existing products, including in the design conceptualisation, choice of packaging material used and the adoption of sustainability by the company. The new package that best meets consumer convenience will also score highly in this category.

This Award is bestowed on a recently redesigned packaging or labelling for an existing dairy product.  Focus will be placed on consumer benefits of the new package, sustainability and convenience.

Beverage Packaging Redesign of the Year

This Award is bestowed on a recently redesigned packaging or labelling for an existing soft or alcoholic beverage product.  Focus will be placed on consumer benefits of the new package, sustainability and convenience.
